Your battle is my battle. Together, we fight breast cancer
To fight breast cancer effectively, awareness is key. The more people are informed about the risks, early detection methods, and available support, the better equipped they are to take action. By saying, “Let’s fight breast cancer,” we are spreading awareness and encouraging dialogue on this critical health issue.
Breast self-examination (BSE) is a technique that individuals can use to check their breasts for any changes or abnormalities. While it is not a replacement for regular clinical breast exams or mammograms, performing BSE on a regular basis can help you become more aware of your breast health and detect potential issues early.

Here's how to perform a breast self-examination

In Front of a Mirror (With Raised Arms): Still facing the mirror, raise your arms overhead.
Observe your breasts in the same way as step 2, looking for any changes.

Choose a Consistent Time: Select a regular time each month to perform a breast self-exam. It’s often recommended to do this a few days after your menstrual period ends when the breasts are less likely to be swollen or tender. If you are postmenopausal, you can choose any day of the month that is convenient for you.

In Front of a Mirror: Stand in front of a mirror with your arms at your sides. Look at your breasts to visually check for any changes in size, shape, or contour. Pay attention to any skin changes, such as redness, dimpling, or puckering. Examine your nipples to see if there are any changes, like inversion or discharge.

While Lying Down: Lie down on your back with a pillow under your right shoulder and your right arm behind your head. Use the fingers of your left hand to examine your right breast. Start at the outermost top of your breast and move in small circular motions, working your way around the entire breast. Gradually move your fingers inwards towards the nipple. Make sure to cover the entire breast and the area under the armpit.
Gently squeeze the nipple and check for any discharge.

Listen to Your Body: Understanding Breast Cancer Symptoms

Understanding the symptoms of breast cancer is a powerful tool in the fight against this disease. Knowledge is the key to early detection and better outcomes.

Lump or Thickening:

The most common symptom is a lump or thickening in the breast or underarm area. While not all lumps are cancerous, it's essential to have any unusual ones checked by a healthcare professional.

Changes in Breast Shape or Size:

Be vigilant about any unexplained changes in the shape or size of your breasts. This could include swelling, shrinkage, or distortion.

Skin Changes:

Look out for changes in the skin of the breast, such as redness, dimpling, or puckering. These changes can be subtle, so regular self-exams are crucial.

Nipple Changes:

Pay attention to your nipples. If they become inverted, change position, or produce unusual discharge, consult a doctor.

Breast Pain:

While breast pain can have various causes, persistent, unexplained pain should be evaluated.

Remember that breast cancer doesn’t always have all the symptoms. That's why regular screenings, including mammograms, are so important, especially as you get older. Early detection can lead to successful treatment and improved survival rates. By being aware of these symptoms and encouraging others to do the same, we can make a real difference in the fight against breast cancer.

Yes, we’re facing it !

It's important to note that these symptoms can also be caused by non-cancerous conditions, and the presence of one or more of these symptoms does not necessarily mean you have breast cancer. However, if you experience any of these changes, it is crucial to consult a healthcare professional for a proper evaluation and diagnosis. Early detection of breast cancer can lead to more effective treatment and better outcomes. Regular breast self-exams and routine mammograms are also valuable tools for detecting breast cancer in its early stages.
